Klondike Solitaire

Klondike Solitaire

The classic patience game. Ace to King, one suit at a time.

Controls

Drag a card or a face-up stack to move it, or tap it and the game moves it to the best place. Double-tap a card to send it to its foundation. Tap the stock to draw. The New, Undo and Hint buttons sit along the bottom. Keys: Space, Enter or D draws, Z, U or Backspace undoes, H shows a hint, N opens a new game. P or Esc pauses.

How to play Klondike Solitaire

Seven columns are dealt on the table, with only the top card of each face up. Move all 52 cards onto the four foundations, one per suit, building up from Ace to King. On the table, stack cards in descending order and alternating colors, a red 6 on a black 7 for example. You can move a whole run of face-up cards at once, and only a King can go into an empty column.

Moving the last face-up card off a column turns over the card beneath it. When you run out of plays, tap the stock to deal more cards to the waste pile. Once every card on the table is face up, the game can finish the deal for you with auto-complete.

Draw 1, draw 3 and winnable deals

From New you choose Draw 1, which turns over one card at a time, or Draw 3, the harder version where only every third card is in play on each pass. You can also choose winnable deals only, drawn from a list of deals a solver has finished, or fully random deals, which are sometimes impossible. Replay this deal starts the same cards again.

Score follows the familiar rules: points for cards to the foundations and for turning cards over, a penalty for each pass through the stock and a small one as the clock runs, and a time bonus for a fast win. The game keeps your games played and won, win rate, best time and best win streak.

Tips and tricks

  • Turn over face-down cards first. A move that reveals a new card is almost always better than one that does not.
  • Do not empty a column unless you have a King ready to fill it.
  • Hold low cards back from the foundations if you still need them to move a run of the other color.
  • Each game has three free undos and three hints. A hint, or unlimited undo once the free ones run out, costs a short ad. Skip it and you get nothing, but the button stays so you can try again.

FAQ

Is Klondike Solitaire free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Drag cards with your finger, or tap a card and it jumps to the best spot. Double-tap sends a card straight to its foundation.

Is every deal winnable?

With winnable deals only switched on, which is the default, every deal comes from a list a solver has played through to the end. With random deals, some cannot be won.
