Drop Merge

Drop Merge

Drop a number, merge the matches, crack the stones and aim past 2048.

Controls

Tap or click a column to drop the next block into it. Tap Hammer, then a block, to smash it, and tap Swap to trade the next two blocks. Keys: Left and Right arrows or A and D choose a column, Space, Enter or Down drops, 1 to 5 drop straight into that column, H hammer, X swap. P or Esc pauses.

How to play Drop Merge

The board has five columns, seven blocks deep. The block hovering above the board is the one you drop next, and the small THEN box shows the one after it. Pick a column and the block falls to the bottom of it. When two blocks with the same number touch, side by side or one on top of the other, they merge into one block worth double. Three at once make a block worth four times as much, and every merge can set off the next one in a chain.

The run ends when a block will not fit. A full column still takes a block if it matches the number on top, because the two merge. Anything else overflows and the game is over.

Stones, bigger numbers and goals

The longer you play, the higher the numbers that drop, and the smallest ones stop coming, so old small blocks can get stuck. Every so often a grey stone drops instead of a number. A stone never merges. It only breaks when a merge happens right next to it, and each stone you crack is worth 40 points.

The goal tile on the right shows the next milestone, starting at 256 and going up through 2048 to 32768. Every merge adds the new block's value to your score.

Tips and tricks

  • Keep your biggest block in one corner column and build smaller numbers next to it in order, so one merge can roll into the next.
  • Check the THEN box before you drop. Knowing the block after next tells you which column to keep open.
  • When a stone is coming, drop it beside a pair that is about to merge so it cracks right away.
  • You can watch a short ad for a hammer, twice a game, or a swap of the next two blocks, three times a game, and when a column overflows you can watch one to clear the top two rows. Skip it and you get nothing, but the button stays so you can try again.
