Code Cracker

Code Cracker

Read the lights, rule out the gems, swing the vault open.

Controls

Tap a gem to put it in the selected dial, swipe a dial up or down to spin it, and tap TRY. The Notes panel lets you mark gems for each dial. Keys: 1 to 8 place a gem, Left and Right pick a dial, Up and Down spin it, Backspace clears it, Enter or Space tries the code, N opens Notes. P or Esc pauses.

How to play Code Cracker

Each vault hides a code of three to five gems. Fill the dials with your guess and try it. A green light means one gem is right and in the right dial. An amber light means one gem is in the code but in another dial. The lights do not say which gem they belong to. That part is your job.

You have a set number of tries. Use each reading to rule gems in or out until only one code fits. The Notes panel lets you mark each gem as in or out for each dial, and the game fills in the marks it can be sure of. Fewer tries and a faster solve score more.

Vault ranks and special vaults

The ladder has eight vault sizes, from three dials, four gems and six tries up to five dials, eight gems and nine tries. Crack a vault with tries to spare and the next one is harder. Fail, and it steps back. Once unlocked, every fourth vault is a special one: Twin Locks, where a gem can repeat, Time Lock, with 90 seconds on the clock, and the Rigged Lock, where one reading lies.

Your Logic Rating is the average of your last ten vaults and sets your title, from Rookie to Grand Cipher. Run out of tries and a short ad gives two more, or 30 more seconds in a Time Lock, once per vault.

Tips and tricks

  • Open with a guess that uses all different gems. It tells you quickly which gems are in the code at all.
  • A reading with no lights at all rules out every gem in it, in every dial.
  • In a Rigged Lock, if no code fits every reading, one of them is the liar. Tap that row to flag it.
  • Stuck? You can watch a short ad to lock one correct gem into its dial, once or twice per vault depending on its size. Skip it and you get nothing, but the button stays so you can try again.

FAQ

Is Code Cracker free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap the gems and dials, and swipe a dial to spin it. The vault fits a phone screen.

What do the green and amber lights mean?

Green means one gem is right and in the right dial. Amber means one gem is in the code but in a different dial. The lights are not in dial order, so they do not say which gem they mean.
