How to play Crane City

A crane swings the next floor back and forth over your tower. Tap, click or press Space to drop it. The floor falls straight down. If it overlaps the floor below, it lands, the overhang is sliced off, and that narrower slab becomes the new top. Miss the tower completely and the game is over.

A drop lined up with the floor below snaps into place as a perfect. Three perfects in a row make the next floor wider again, so a careful streak can undo the damage of a sloppy drop. Higher up, the wind pushes the crane around: watch the flag on the arm before you let go.

Residents, ranks and score

Every floor that lands gets windows, and residents move in a moment later. Perfect floors attract a few more people. Your score is floors times 10 plus the number of residents. The town grows with the tower: Building site, Village, Town, City, Metropolis, Megacity, Sky City and Star City, each with its own sky and palette as you climb into the clouds.

The first floor is a wide foundation. After that every miss cuts the stack, so the crane gets harder to time as the slab gets thin. Your best floor count is saved, and a new record on a finished tower is called out on the results screen.

Tips and tricks

  • Wait for the floor to pass the centre of the tower, then drop as it comes back. Chasing it usually overshoots.
  • When the flag is flapping hard, the crane is drifting. Give it a beat.
  • A perfect streak is worth chasing: three in a row widens the floor, which buys you room for the next few drops.
  • If a floor misses the tower, you can watch a short ad once to re-drop that same floor on a slower swing. Skip the ad and you get nothing, but the button stays so you can try again.

FAQ

Is Crane City free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap anywhere to drop the floor. No keyboard is needed.

Why did my floor get smaller?

Any overhang is sliced off when a floor lands, and the leftover width is what you stack on next. Line the drop up with the floor below, or hit three perfects in a row to widen it again.

Is my progress saved?

Your best floor count and your sound setting are saved in your browser on this device. Each tower starts from the ground.
