Controls
Tap a stone pad to build, then tap a tower to upgrade it or sell it. On a keyboard, the arrow keys or WASD pick a pad, 1 to 4 build an Archer, Cannon, Frost Mage or Ballista, U upgrades, X sells, Space calls the next wave and F speeds the fight up. P or Esc pauses.
How to play Castle Guard
Enemies walk a winding road toward the castle gate. You build on the stone pads beside that road. Archers shoot fast and can hit flying bats. Cannons splash a cluster of ground troops. Frost mages slow whatever they hit, including bats. Ballistas hit hard and pierce through a line, but they cannot shoot air. Each tower upgrades twice.
The gate starts with 20 wall. Every enemy that reaches it chips that wall. Call the next wave before the countdown runs out for bonus gold. Keep at least 90 percent of the wall for three stars, half of it for two, and any surviving gate for one.
Maps, waves and gold
There are 8 maps: Meadow Lane, Old Mill, Bramble Woods, Riverbend, Frostfell Pass, Sunken Marsh, Dragon's Spine and King's Road. Each one has 10 waves. Wolves are fast, orcs are tough, bats fly, and a boss stomps in on wave 5 and wave 10. Later maps pay a little more starting gold and send denser waves.
Kills drop gold. Archers cost 70, frost mages 90, cannons 110 and ballistas 130, and upgrades cost more on top. Between waves you can watch a short ad for 150 extra gold, up to twice per map, as long as the road is clear. If the wall falls you can watch one ad to repair it to half and shove the nearest enemies back down the road.
Tips and tricks
- Put archers and frost mages where the road bends, so they cover the longest stretch, and leave a cannon or ballista on a straight for the orcs.
- Bats ignore cannons and ballistas. Keep at least one air tower awake before wave 4.
- Call the next wave the moment the last enemy dies. The leftover countdown is extra gold.
- If you skip a gold or repair ad you get nothing, but the button stays so you can try again.

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap pads to build and tap towers to upgrade or sell. The map flips itself when you hold the device on its side.
Why didn't my cannon hit the bats?
Cannons and ballistas only hit the ground. Archers and frost mages are the ones that can shoot flying enemies.
Is my progress saved?
Your unlocked maps, your best stars on each map and your sound setting are saved in your browser on this device.
