Shadow Cast

Shadow Cast

Turn the jumble of blocks until its shadow makes a picture.

Controls

Drag left or right to spin the sculpture and up or down to tilt it; on later levels, tap the round ⟲ and ⟳ buttons to roll it. On a keyboard, the Left and Right arrows or A and D spin it 15°, the Up and Down arrows or W and S tilt it, and Q and E roll it. H is a hint, R resets and L opens the level list. P or Esc pauses.

How to play Shadow Cast

A sculpture made of colored blocks floats in front of a lamp, and its shadow falls on a plaster wall. A dashed outline on the wall shows the shape the shadow has to make. From most angles the sculpture looks like a random pile of blocks, and its shadow is just a blob.

Turn the sculpture and watch the shadow change. When you let go it snaps to the nearest 15° step. The match meter under the wall shows how close you are, and once it reaches 90% the picture is revealed and the level is solved.

Spin, tilt, roll and stars

There are 24 silhouettes: Heart, House, Tree, Mushroom, Cat, Fish, Key, Letter A, Bird, Rocket, Mug, Boat, Ghost, Bell, Anchor, Letter K, Duck, Crown, Umbrella, Music, Rabbit, Star, Letter R and Boot. Levels 1 to 4 only let you spin the sculpture, levels 5 to 12 add tilting, and levels 13 to 24 add rolling with the ⟲ and ⟳ buttons.

The name on the wall reads ??? until you solve the level. Stars depend only on hints: solve a level without one for three stars, with one hint for two, and with more for one. Levels unlock one after another.

Tips and tricks

  • Work on one axis at a time. Find the spin that gets the meter highest, then move on to tilt and roll.
  • Drag slowly and watch the shadow. It updates live while you turn the sculpture.
  • Many shapes can be matched from more than one angle, so there is often more than one way to win.
  • Reset turns the sculpture back to where it started, for free.
  • Stuck? Tap Hint and watch a short ad: the game sets one axis (spin, tilt or roll) to the right angle. You get up to three hints per level, but any hint lowers your star rating.

FAQ

Is Shadow Cast free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Drag with your finger to spin and tilt the sculpture, and tap the round buttons to roll it on later levels. No keyboard is needed.

Why does the sculpture look like a random pile of blocks?

That is the puzzle. The blocks sit at different depths, so the picture only appears in the shadow when the sculpture faces the lamp at the right angle.
