Controls
Keyboard: Arrow keys or A / D to run, Space, W or the Up arrow to jump, P or Esc to pause. Touch: the left and right buttons to run and the big yellow button to jump.
How to play Pip's Big Hop
Pip is a small orange hopper with a very big goal: reach the flag at the end of every level. Run to the right, jump over gaps and snails, and grab as many gold coins as you can on the way.
Pip starts each level with three hearts. Touching a snail from the side or landing on spikes costs a heart, and falling into a gap sends Pip back to the last checkpoint. Jump on a snail's head to squash it instead. Lose all three hearts and the level is over, but you can try again straight away.
Stars, coins and characters
Every finished level gives you at least one star. Collect half of the level's coins for a second star, and nine out of ten for the third. Coins also go into your bank, and the bank buys new characters in the Characters menu: Minty, Berry, Skye, Bunbun and the royal King Pip.
Levels unlock one at a time on the map, so you can always go back to an earlier level to chase a missing star.
The six levels
- Sunny Start teaches the basics: running, jumping and your first snail.
- Hop Hills adds spikes and the first bouncy mushroom, which throws Pip high enough to reach coins in the sky.
- Bouncy Woods moves into the forest with more mushrooms and more snails.
- Cloud Walk is built around moving clouds. Wait for a cloud to come close before you jump on.
- Spiky Canyon is all about stairs and rows of spikes, with a spare heart hidden along the way.
- Star Castle mixes everything you have learned into the longest level of the game.
Tips and tricks
- Pip can still jump for a moment after running off an edge, so you do not have to jump at the very last pixel.
- Press jump a little before you land and Pip will jump again as soon as the feet touch the ground.
- Flags in the middle of a level are checkpoints. Touch them and a fall only sends you back that far.
- Coins high in the air usually mean a bouncy mushroom is nearby.
- On a moving cloud, stand still and let the cloud carry you; jumping too early is the most common way to fall.
